AME ZEK & BRENDAN DOUGHERTY #63
Doors: 19:00
Start time: 20:00
Brendan Dougerthy - Sensate
Sensate represents several years working with analog synthesis, digital sequencing / manipulation and traditional instruments. Using repetition more than phrasing, rhythms are created and the “noises” of analog and digital synthesis are exploited; the hiss and distortion of an analog signal path and the jittery, frenetic data flow of digital sequencing. Sensate will be released in November 2015 on Entr'acte records.
Ame Zek - Streams
As musical 'reactions' and creations are a direct response on intense personal experience of the binding power of morphing underwater currents and digital algorhytmic changes of today at once, streams are randomizations of movements, tempos and directions. In that very sense they provide backgrounds, channel influences and thus condition our existence. Vigilant harnessing of these forces is imperative as they gather more and more nuances of unpredictability in the urban digital world. These surges signify all types of flows in our contemporary virtual and natural surroundings which include information about our emotional, spiritual and intellectual vitality. Streams are now all around us for us to feel them, to be intrigued by them, and also to be mindful when letting ourselves become entangled in them'.
Brendan Dougherty was born in Philadelphia and moved to Europe in the early 00’s. He is a founding member of Idiot Switch and Charrd. He currently plays in Transmit, a side project of Tony Buck (The Necks). He is equally known for his work in theatre and performance art, having collaborated with Adam Linder, Ian Kaler, Antonija Livingstone and Jeremy Wade. A long running collaboration with Meg Stuart resulted in three pieces including Violet which was called “a sublime sound maelstrom… a convulsive beauty” (Les Inrockuptibles).
Ame Zek is an electronic musician, sound artist, and composer based in Berlin. He is a producer of sound waves and an LFO modulator, using modulation chains to create a platform for building evolving sound structures. He has developed his own composing strategy by using different modes of modulation in a specified order, defined at it’s basic most character by the use of his own particular techniques. The result is an evolution of sound structures through modulation, where ever-changing patterns shift in time with common dependencies and autonomous movement. Ceaselessly focused on the intricacies of oscillating sound, Ame Zek employs an active combination of senses in touch, sight, and listening. Modularities and transformations have become what he describes as his “daily musical and spiritual experience.” Over many years, it is this particular act of creation which holds the greatest interest to Ame Zek. Aesthetics found within the sound of Ame Zek are a direct result of researching the creative possibilities and sonic frontiers of his chosen instruments. Today, the work of Ame Zek has reached greater sophistication through his use of complex MIDI devices and techniques. In turn, his compositions evolve organically for the listener. All hardware and techniques combined, Ame Zek has found himself standing before the ultimate system for performance, composition, and research.
