Veronika Mayer and Petr Vrba are both part of a very active scene of experimental and free improvised music. Celebrating two new releases is reason enough for a concert tour of junk & the beast in 2017 and to perform internationally. Experienced in various musical genres and collaborations with musicians and performers from all over the world, in their band junk & the beast they found a stable and ongoing duo format within which they can explore and develop personal sounds and musical perspectives over the years.

Lorenzo Colocci is an Italian composer, flautist, improviser and inventor working with new extended techniques, circuit bending, feedback and self made acoustic instruments. He records and dissects sounds and rhythmic patterns generated by analogue drum machines and synthetic sources, making them interact with complex texture and re-structuring them into new extended musical forms. He released “The Ropesh” and “Studio Konzert”, published by “Neuklang” in 2013, and “I Musei Officine Creative", published and distributed by RaRa records (2014). He actually lives in Berlin being involved in numerous projects related to improvisation, noise, avant-garde and audio visual.

The starting point of the artistic collaboration of the composer and sound artist Veronika Mayer and the musician Petr Vrba already dates back to 2013: A spontaneous open air jam session in the middle of Austria´s beautiful nowhere around Nickelsdorf gave birth to their experiments with air, beat frequencies and the subtle meandering of combination tones and smooth changes in intonation. During the last years their collaboration included changes of instruments, experiments with improvisational forms and concepts as well as detailed joint planned compositions. In its music the duo junk & the beast creates a stirring atmosphere with the mixture of acoustic instruments and electronic sound generators, a balanced and fine-tuned organisation of sound with the creation and fusion of timbres and noise. Concentrated on the essence, they reach a radical clarity in transitions of dense to porous episodes and tension to release.
