This March Digital in Berlin is delighted to present a special audio-visual collaboration between MimiCof a.k.a. midori hirano and Kalma VJ

Curated by Dirk Markham

Midori Hirano is a Japanese composer and sound artist, born in Kyoto and now based in Berlin, stems across a diverse range of genres and cultures. Her works are a diverse and eclectic mixture of modern digital sounds with subtle electronic processing or field recordings.

Kalma is a visual artist and a sound technician whose approach to the visual experience is intimately linked with her background of working with sound. It is spontaneous experimentation between both the languages of visual and audio. Her work as a visual artist includes interactive installations, mapping and vjing, which she combines with her passion for teaching. „For me, vjing is not a translation of sound into light and video, but an intertwining and choreographing of the parts, creating new and unrepeatable experiences from moment to moment. Sound and public play intimate rolls in this process“.

Since 2008, she has performed at art festivals and played in clubs around Europe including Contemporary Performing Arts of Glastonbury (UK), Laptoprus (Madrid), Perspective Festival, Dokfest Kassel, Krakow Fest (Germany), Fiesta is Madrid (Amsterdam), Weekend, Suicide Circus, Ohm (Berlin), Fabrik, Mondo, Goa electronic parties (Madrid). Currently living in Berlin, she organizes/hosts workshops, collaborates with a variety of artists and collectives such as Female Pressure and Raw Chicks and writes articles for Vjspain.
