ICAN screening: "The Bomb" #430
- Doors: 19:30

People often think of nuclear weapons as just a relic left over from the Cold War. But on the contrary, billions are currently being invested in nuclear arsenals, and US nuclear weapons are deployed here in Germany. 15,000 nuclear weapons still exist worldwide. The film “The Bomb” brings us closer to this subject through strong images and using well-researched information from the investigative journalist Eric Schlosser (author of „Command and Control“). Accompanied by a soundtrack from “The Acid”, the film confronts the audience for 61 minutes with the force of the nuclear bomb. The film premiered at the Berlinale in 2016 and left a lasting impression on the public.
The film gives food for thought and, following the screening, we would like to discuss these thoughts with you:
- What power do nuclear weapons exert over us?
- Who possesses them and who has control over them?
- What developments can we find in nuclear disarmament?
ICAN Germany is the German section of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), working together with more than 450 organisations in a global network in 100 countries. This network was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. Before the screening we’ll tell you a bit about ICAN and our work to ban the bomb, and afterwards we want to discuss the film with you. So, if you want to see a good film and inform yourself on this topic, or perhaps even to join us in working for disarmament – come along!
