  • Joke Lanz & Jonas Kocher - The impossibility of being rational!

Turntablist Joke Lanz creates autonomous sound-cells that melt into a language free of any function. He combines ritual reductionism with anarchistic playfulness, atmospheric soundscapes with cut-up noise and physicalness with unpredictability: Massive scratches, walls of sound, grooves, loops, noises and voice modulations! He collaborated with: Shelley Hirsch, Ken Vandermark, Lasse Marhaug, Jorge Sanchez-Chiong, Mat Pogo, Olaf Rupp, Strotter Inst, Christian Weber, Charlotte Hug, Peter Kowald, Christian Marclay, DJ Olive, Mike Majkowski, Martin Baumgartner, dieb13, eRikM, Martin Tétreault, Christian Wolfarth, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, JD Zazie, Bus Ratch, just to name a few.

Best known for his international acclaimed Noise project 'Sudden Infant', Joke Lanz is presenting his work since 25 years all over the world. Born in Switzerland and currently operating out of Berlin, Joke Lanz is one of the most prolific and profound artists working in the border zones where performance and body art meet Improvisation and Noise. In his Sudden Infant guise, Lanz creates a unique blend of physical sound poetry and epileptic noise bursts, using contact microphones, loops, tapes etc. The result is an extreme form of musique concrète that juxtaposes spasmodic gibbering with a battery of disorienting electronics. His activities in various solo and collective guises have included Sudden Infant, Schimpfluch-Gruppe, WAL, Catholic Boys In Heavy Leather, Jaywalker, Collaborations with Z'EV, Rudolf Eb.er, Astro, MSBR, Sixes, Evil Moisture, Bill Kouligas, Daniel Menche, GX Jupitter-Larsen, Carlos Giffoni and countless others.

Jonas Kocher was born in 1977 and studied a.o. with Teodoro Anzellotti and Georges Aperghis. Past collaborations with composer Daniel Ott and theatre director Ruedy Häusermann has been key experiences for his work, as well as recent exchanges with composer Eric Gaudibert and collaborations with Christian Kesten. Jonas Kocher's work explores the process of listening and perception, this as improviser as well as in his compositional work. Kocher works with artists such Burkhard Beins, Jacques Demierre, Axel Dörner, Michel Doneda, Hans Koch, Radu Malfatti, Alfredo Costa Monteiro, Joke Lanz, a.o. As composer he realizes projects which are situated between composed theatre, installation and concert pieces. His compositions has been played at Biennale Bern 2010 [CH], Jardins Musicaux 2012 [CH], Theater Basel [CH], Umlaut Festival [D], Biennale Zagreb [HR], Festival Encuentros Buenos Aires [ARG], Festival Concentus Moravie [CK], SMC Lausanne [CH], Zentrum Paul Klee [CH], The Forge London [UK].
