Konzert Minimal focuses on the music of the Wandelweiser collective and composers who share similar aesthetics and interests in the organisation of sound and silence as well as extending beyond conventional confinements and traditional hierarchy. As an ensemble of Berlin-based performers, Konzert Minimal draws upon diverse yet focused collective experiences of its members, who come from various backgrounds; modern classical music, experimental and improvised music, sound art, conceptual performance and composition.
Konzert Minimal was initiated by Johnny Chang and Koen Nutters in November 2010, since then the ensemble has appeared in the following venues and festivals: Labor Sonor, N.K., ausland, Studio 8, Relevant Musik festival (Berlin), Sonic Acts festival (Amsterdam), Cafe OTO (London).
A key aspect of Konzert Minimal is ongoing co-operation and research with composers, with ongoing collaborations alongside composers such as Peter Ablinger, Antoine Beuger, Catherine Lamb, Radu Malfatti, Michael Pisaro and Manfred Werder.
Rishin Singh (b.1985) uses many different media to create minimal, sensual and meditative work that invites the audience to concentrate fully on the simple rhythms of everyday life. Malaysia-born and Berlin-based Singh is a former co-director of the NOW now festival of experimental art (Sydney, Australia).
Koen Nutters: The Hague, 1976. Upright Bass, Structure, Liquid Composition, Consumer Electronics. A founding member of the N Collective. Also organises the concertseries: DNK-Amsterdam.
Rebecca Lane is a flautist who sometimes uses her voice. She lives in Berlin.
Berlin-based composer-performer Johnny Chang engages in extended explorations surrounding the relationships of sound/listening and the in-between areas of improvisation, composition and performance. Boris Baltschun is an artist who lives and works in Berlin. Active groups he performs with are bbb (Serge Baghdassarians/Boris Baltschun/Burkhard Beins) and The Pitch (Michael Thieke, Morten Olsen, Koen Nutters, Boris Baltschun). Since more than ten years he cooperates with Serge Baghdassarians (baghdassarians/baltschun). Together they work in a wide range of media to realise their ideas: installation, sculpture, radio, video and performance. He has performed and exhibited in places such as Donaueschinger Musiktage, at Diapason Gallery (New York), at Moderna Museet (Stockholm), at Singuhr (Berlin) and at Bridge (Osaka).
