The performance Marco Melis - Unsighted was originally commissioned by the Talbot Rice Gallery of Edinburgh as the closing act of an event on "Deep Time". Dealing with a time span of 10e+16 years in the future led to a research on "time" as a basic condition of experience, on other conditions of experience such as "our sense of finality", and how those two dimensions are interconnected in time-dependent forms of art. One of the outcomes is the hypothesis that the "deep future" question is actually a way of proving our "sense-building ability", something that is essentially unsighted (as in hidden) -- but which can also make us unsighted (as in blind) as soon as it breaks down.

The performance by Marco Melis & Wissam Sader consists of a structured improvisation, taking advantage of that specific "medium confusion" that is inherent in electroacoustic practices. Organic sounds inspire a placid state that slowly, but constantly, evolves.

Marco Melis studied philosophy, engineering and sound art. His work has been shown in international festivals such as Sonorities, NIME, Emufest, London Design Week. He works as sound designer for theatre as well. www.marco-melis.com

Wissam Sader is a contemporary artist based in Berlin who works with different artistic mediums such as photography, sculpture, sound, video and installation. His main interest led him to investigate sound and noise pollution in urban environments, reflecting on the constant exposure he experienced in his natal city, Beirut. He is devoted to sound as a form of expression and a language that is globally understood and as such, the role of sound in communicating between various locations and spaces.

Riccardo La Foresta is a percussionist and composer based in Modena (IT), he works mainly on a prepared snaredrum, treating it as a wind instrument, the Drummophone. He has played in Italy, Austria, Swiss, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Holland, France, and has collaborated with artist such as Mats Gustafsson, Michel Doneda, Le Quan Ninh, Toma Gouband, Stefano Battaglia, Edoardo Marraffa among others. He leads Kind Of Mosh, avant-jazz quartet (El Gallo Rojo Records) and in 2013 he co-founded Sho Shin Duo, with Riccardo Marogna on reeds and electronics, long standing collaboration that has released three records and toured all over Europe. A couple of years ago he started his solo project, an ongoing process focused the timbric possibilities of percussion instruments that brought him to the Drummophone, a true wind instrument obtained from a cymbal and a drum connected together that goes far away from any drumming approach.
