Presentations of seminar works from current Edgar Varèse guestprofessor class at the Audio Communication Group, TU Berlin.
The Edgard Varèse guest professorship has been granted to the TU Berlin in 2000. It is financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), aiming at the internationalization of learning and teaching.
Michael Harenberg (guest professor, winter term 2016/17) is a media scientist and composer. He studied musicology und composition and has a PhD in Media Studies. His work focuses on digital sound culture, experimental interfaces, and compositional models of virtuality of the digital. He has published extensively on these topics.

The class Algorithmic composition under live conditions at TU Berlin is focused on models of algorithmic improvisation. How can the algorithmically generated structures and settings be used in musical interpretations? Different ways of playing are worked out in an open format, nonspecific in terms of styles and genres. This also concerns the collaboration models of body and machine, of musical perception and its rational formulation in algorithms. All kinds of analog and digital instruments, interfaces, sensors, etc. are welcome; in the current joint performance the results are presented live.
