Claire Cote, Alice Nardi, Toby K - Experiments from movLab
We will present work in progress demonstrations from several of the projects developed through the monthly movLab meetup at Spektrum. Afterwards the audience will be invited to use the interactive technology and give feedback. We are keen to get feedback from people of all backgrounds.
- A glove equipped with sensors and bespoke softare for controlling Ableton Live. We are investigating meaningfully integrating dance motion capture with with regular rythmic musical song structure.
- A robot 'Backup Dancer' that is controlled by a neural network. Input is via a Kinect sensor. We are expimenting with training the neural network to recognise 'emotional styles' of dance and see if they emotional intention can be in turn performed by the robot.
- The 'Beatdice' a tangible interface for creating music consiting of wireless light cubes, also acting as an Ableton Live controller. This is an existing project originally performed at the Vivid festival in Sydney. The original concept was to create a collaborative experience where anyone (regardless of musical skill) can participate in a creative jam session. We are looking to adapt the installation into a new format with a greater body movement component and looking for feedback on how to implement this.
At movLab we are researching ways to digitize motion and the human body and to make the data accessible for further use in VR, gaming, stage performance or art. We are building sensors, writing code and exploring new ways of moving. At our community meetings we get together and experiment.
