movLab presents: Sentire

The movLab community presents: Sentire

‘Sentire’ is an Italian word that means both to hear and to feel: we want to discover this fine mixture of perception that require to slowly listen and experience tiny body sensations and sound events. Both hearing and feeling will influence each other, creating a feedback loop of physical, emotional, intellectual experience. Sentire explore how interactive sound influences human body awareness in all its complexity: for this reason `sentire` is an open project and welcomes any visitor to participate.

Two artists have been working on it: Marcello Lussana took care of the technology and sound, Olga Kozmanidze interacts with the visitors. The two artists met in September at the movLab meeting and started to work together.

The device we are using is able to detect proximity and touch between two people. Every single participant will be connected to the system and s/he will be able to interact with Olga: depending on distance and touch different sounds will be changing and be triggered, giving the chance to perceive your body on a deep level.

Visitors are invited to explore ‘sentire’ during individual session which lasts 2-10 minutes. Each session is divided into 2 levels:

  • interaction with artist through free movement
  • interaction with artist with limited motion and senses (being seated, eyes closed)

No special requirements are needed to participate: people from any background, any experiences, any age are welcome.

We kindly inform you that:

  • during each session photo and video recording will be done
  • all sessions are open for the audience: anyone from the visitors may be present during each individual session
  • this work is part of a research on human perception. We would like to have a phenomenological interview with any of the participants: this takes about half an hour and it has to happen no later than 24 hours after the experience. This is not a precondition to participate but it is warmly welcomed.

movLab is a place for researching ways to digitize motion and the human body and to make the data accessible for further use in VR, gaming, stage performance or art. We are building sensors, writing code and explore new ways of moving.

At our community meetings we get together and experiment. Some of us may be trained professionals others are completely new to the field. You do not need to know or have anything to join us, apart from respect for the people around you.

We embrace diversity in thoughts, bodies and looks! We take the unknown and unfamiliar as inspiration and as a challenge to rethink ourselves. An especially warm welcome those who are often underrepresented in the tech domain! We strongly believe in the Berlin Code of Conduct: https://rubyberlin.github.io/code-of-conduct/.
