Fabricating Empathy and Speculative Futures
As part of the School of Machines, Making & Make-Believe’s four-week Fabricating Empathy program, an informal panel and open discussion will take place at SPEKTRUM on 2 September.
Topics to be explored: speculative futures, world creation, and realising designed fictions.
Special guests include Luiza Prado and Pedro Oliveira, PhD candidates at UdK and members of A Parede, a brazilian design research group, as well as German-born artist, designer, and writer Sascha Pohflepp, whose projects range from the microcosm of synthetic biology to the macrocosm of space exploration.
Leading the discussion will be the instructors of the Fabricating Empathy program, Andrew Friend and Sitraka Rakotoniaina, a London-based collaborative duo specialised in designing objects, artefacts and devices as a form of storytelling to question and excite. Together they exam relationships between the known and unknown, the real and imagined in the individual quest to harness the sublime.
