DEBORAH S. PHILLIPS is a Berlin-based visual artist who has been working in a variety of analogue and old-fashioned media including 16mm film, film slides, works on paper and handmade books for more than 25 years. From 1988 – 2001 she was an active member of the Braunschweig-based artist collective LABORATORIUM where she first started working with film, and in 2007 she co-founded Kunstverein Neukölln, a gallery and art centre presenting film screenings, performances and installations. Phillips’ work, which often involves in-depth explorations of monochromes, has been shown among others at the European Media Art Festival (Osnabrück, GE), Arsenal (Berlin, GE), Lightcone (Paris, FR), Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen (GE), Toronto International Film Festival (CA), Anthology Film Archives, and Millennium Film Workshop (NY), among others.
