Mark Street
Mark Street graduated from Bard College (B.A, 1986) and the San Francisco Art Institute (MFA 1992). He has shown work in the New York Museum of Modern Art Cineprobe series (1991, 1994), at Anthology Film Archives (1993, 2006, 2009), Millennium (1990,1996), and the San Francisco Cinematheque (1986, 1992, 2009). His work has appeared at the Tribeca (5 times), Sundance, Rotterdam, New York, London, San Francisco, New York Underground, Sarajevo, Viennale, Ourense (Spain), Mill Valley, South by Southwest, and other film festivals.
For the past 20 years Mark Street has been making films and videos that teeter between the experimental, documentary and narrative worlds. Street tries to take each project on its own terms: tailoring the way he works to the parameters of the idea.
One element of process that has informed all his works in its various guises is the negotiation between spontaneity and formal control.
Many times in Marks life as a filmmaker he has found himself drawn to cities. "I find the activity of wandering and shooting immensely inspiring: the city offers endless possibilities, surprises and contradictions". He is drawn to the delicious unexpected chaos that he encounters on a walk with a camera.
