Margherita Pevere (visuals) & Ivan Penov (sound) - Impromptus

Parallel Asteroid - Artificial Hybrid
Parallel Asteroid connects experimental, acoustic and electronic sounds with contemporary aesthetics. Their performance is a research into the relationship between electronic and organic sounds, creating abstract beauty when these worlds collide. Their performance is a result of introspection and the trust to give in to the fragility of the moment where ideas crystalize into abstract shapes and textures.

Event presented by Scope - curated by AudeRrose

Presented for the first time in Berlin, Impromptus is a collection of audiovisual excerpts from Margherita Pevere's organically manipulated film footage Liquid Debris with sound by Ivan Penov. Pevere and Penov's long-time creative collaboration has delivered a series of short audiovisual pieces based on improvisation. Penov sculpts compositions out of hidden qualities of noises, filthy sonorities, discarded sonic material. He creates new sonic entities out of all the remains of old recordings, new recordings reconverted in "bad ways" giving a new poetry of what has been considered unwanted and unpleasant. Pevere manipulates 8mm, 16mm and 35mm found footage using organic and chemical processes. She corrodes 8mm film with her own gastric juice, cultivates sprouts and moulds on 35mm film and obliterates images on 16 mm footage in a way that echoes her Works on Paper, first erasing the gelatine and then writing on it.

Deeply fascinated by biological processes, Margherita Pevere is a visual artist and researcher investigating decay and transformation as they are common destiny of human and non-human matter. Her practice features a unique combination of organic and technological materials: she grows bacterial cultures, manipulates paper and photographic film, collects organic relics, captures ephemeral lights with digital video and plans to store a digitized collection of memories on bacterial genome. Pevere is now pursuing her PhD at Aalto University, School of Arts, Design at Architecture in Helsinki (FIN).

In Berlin she actively collaborates with the DIYbio group BioTinkering e.V.. Most recent exhibitions include the Article Biennial – i/o lab, Stavanger (N), curated by Hege Tapio and Nora Vage; the Dutch Design Week – BioArt Laboratories, Eindhoven (NL), curated by Jalila Essaidi; State Festival, Berlin, curated by Daniela Silvestrin.

Ivan Penov (1985, Macedonia/Italy) is a composer and audiovisual artist. His works focus on a structural interaction between sonic and visual logics and poetics, extending the sound forms in visual compositions and sonification of visual phenomena.
