MXZEHN - Der Traum des Ingenieurs

Slowly, but steadily, an invisible playhead moves across a grid. Sounds and symbols make themselves visible and audible. "It was the engineers dream to free those forms that usually just serve and make them sing about themselves..." With „The Engineers Dream“ Stefan Kraus stages the relationship between sound, time and space as an audiovisual continuum, oscillating between technical precision, feverish dream and poetry. The live performance is „work in progress“ and transposes the ideas of the 2014 released, homonymous multichannel installation into a cineastic concert experience. Three compositions by Marc Sauter lay the foundations for a visual interpretation that directly relates to spatial distance. The sensory response, which has been described as "hypnotic", questions traditional views of time based media.

Stefan Kraus (* June 11th, 1974) is a German artist and director who's work is centered around audiovisual performance and augmented reality. Stefan lives and works in Weimar, Germany. Since 1999 the studied architect devoted himself to the artistic fusion of media and space. As videoartist MXZEHN he represents his work at festivals and exhibitions all over Europe. At Bauhaus-University Weimar he has been teaching and researching in digitally augmented artistic performance. In 2009 he produced his first architectural projection mapping in celebration of the Bauhaus' 90th birthday on the German National Theater in Weimar. In 2012 he founded the international Genius Loci Weimar festival for audiovisual projection mapping which is happening with growing success ever since. For the German National Theater Stefan has produced audiovisual concerts a.o. with Alva Noto. In his work Stefan blurs the boundaries between art, design, media and architecture to create an immersive Gesamtkunstwerk. He is teaching as a guest researcher at Bauhaus-Universitiy Weimar design faculty.

Marc Sauter (* October 29th, 1976) is a German composer and sound artist. He founded the duo Seltsam & Strahler. Together with Susann Hempel interpretations for electronic and piano to poems of Else Lasker Schüler followed. His work is presented in exhibitions and audiovisual performances. Marc first studied philosophy and ethnology in Heidelberg but fell in love with the arts at the Bauhaus-University Weimar, where the vibrant mixture of architecture, design, art and philosophy led from multidisciplinary collaborations with visual artists to international exhibitions and performances. His work reflects the attention-feedback of human perception and how it multiplies to thought, imagination and emotion. His compositions maintain a contrast between static, architectural sound settings and a considerable amount of movement and structured activity from where carefully placed fragile beauty emerges
