Sonic Code Sessions Open Lecture #1
- Start time: 19:30
- Entrance: free
Welcoming once again artists , coders and creators interested in technology to assist to a special edition of SCS that will welcome the students of Maastricht Academy of Media Design and Technology on their visit to Berlin. In this occasion we will like to present to you a summary of what we have been involved in the last year.
[ Interfacing with the world ]
[Micro-controllers != micro-computers] DSP processing , interfacing with sensors , wireless connectivity , remote control for installations etc. PopularSynth . How we created a collaborative sound experience that created sound on the participants phones assigning different sound roles to each user (48h Neukolln 2018)
[ Visual programming tools for Procedural Video Game Audio generation ]
Trying to write low level code for audio generation can be difficult for non developers . Luckily enough , Enzienaudio released an open source tool , that can export your Puredata patches into a myriad of formats, including unity3d plugins , a free software widely use for game development.
[ Beyond 4/4 and 12-TET ]
Nowadays , even with high level programming environments we can get astonishing practical results , to hack our current “global” music system standards. Depending on what you choose to make music digitally with , you will have more or less options on this matter. However we will like to show you what we have been experimenting on this field.
- Polyrhythm and Polymeter and Euclidean sequencers in a 4/4 world . Still not a hard task to archive in may DAW´s , but probably not always the best environment for it .
- Tuning systems and alternative temperaments and how to Hack midi , digital synths and DAW´s to be able to tune on different temperaments.
As our time is limited , this should give you a nice overview of what has been going on the last months . We would like to invite some SCS regular members also to showcase their works if possible.

Community meeting
The Sonic Code Sessions aim to provide a time and place for self directed and collaborative learning + experimentation. If you would like to free yourself from the limitations that come with traditional music software, this is for you! We occasionaly do jam sessions and plan group performances.
Anyone interested in generative music and the use of computing skills for sonic expression is welcome, no matter if a complete beginner or an expert. Please bring a computer to experiment with and learn about sound programming. All sound coding environments are welcome - e.g. PureData, SuperCollider, Max/MSP, CSound, ChucK, etc. If you don't have one yet, our welcome guide will help you getting started.
