Yan Chun is a sound artist and poet and was born in Lanzhou in 1973. He is based in Beijing and currently lives in Berlin for an artist residency (DaaD). He is working on improvised and experimental sound art, field recording, organizing and writing. Alongside of at venues, he goes to audience’s home to play with the environment and what else available in the room (Living Room Tour project) and does noise hypnotizing at any place for small amount of audiences. He is also amplifying body movements or other performative elements in a simple manner. He is a member of FEN, Tea Rockers Quintet and Impro Committee and founder of the guerrilla label Sub Jam.
Diemo Schwarz, born in Germany in 1969, is a researcher and developer at Ircam (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique-Musique, Paris), composer and sound artist. His research work includes improving interaction between musician and computer, and exploiting large masses of sound for interactive real-time sound synthesis, collaborating with composers such as Philippe Manoury, Dai Fujikura, Stefano Gervasoni, Pierre Jodlowski, Aaron Einbond, Sam Britton. He holds a PhD in computer science applied to music, awarded in 2004 for the development of a new method of corpus-based concatenative musical sound synthesis by unit selection from a large soundbase. His compositions and live performances—under the name of his solo project Mean Time Between Failure, or improvising with artists such as George Lewis, Evan Parker, Frédéric Blondy, Victoria Johnson, Etienne Brunet,Luka Juhart, Pierre-Alexander Tremblay—explore the possibilities of corpus-based concatenative synthesis to re-contextualise any sound source by rearranging sound units into a new musical framework using interactive navigation through a sound space.
Richard Scott is a free improvising sound artist and electroacoustic composer, working with electronics including modular synthesizers and controllers such as the Buchla Thunder and Lightning and his own self-designed WiGi infrared controller developed at STEIM. He has been composing and performing for over 25 years, recently working with Evan Parker, Jon Rose, Richard Barrett, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Shelley Hirsch, Ute Wasserman, Michael Vorfeld, Frank Gratkowski and his own Lightning Ensemble. He studied free improvisation in the 1980s with John Stevens, saxophone with Elton Dean and Steve Lacy, and electroacoustic composition with David Berezan and Ricardo Climent. He has released many albums, for example with Grutronic and Evan Parker for PSI records, The Magnificence of Stereo (sruti BOX) and has a solo double modular synthesizer LP, Several Circles, and an album with Sidsel Endreson, Debris in Lower Earth Orbit, released on CUSP Editions in 2016.
