Sound Portraits #25: Caterina Barbieri
- Start time: 20:00
- Entrance: open donation
Sound Portraits is a series of listening sessions, curated by Doron Sadja, focusing on the work of iconic composers who have paved the way for contemporary electronic music.
For this session we will be breaking away from our typical format of presentation - this time our featured artist will be present at this Sound Portrait and will be engaging in an open dialogue with presenter Doreen Ooi. We will also have the special opportunity of hearing her perform one of her works live for us.
This session: Caterina Barbieri

http://sound-portraits.tumblr.comCaterina Barbieri is a young electronic composer based in Berlin. In her music she explores themes related to musical intelligence and object related perception in sound through a focus on minimalism.
She studied classical guitar in the Conservatory of Music in Bologna and electronic music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm where she first encountered the Buchla 200, which led her down the path to composition and also opened a universe of musical possibility and self-expression.
She explores the psycho-physical effects of repetition and pattern-based operations in music by investigating the polyphonic and polyrhythmic potential of sequencers. Caterina's ouevre is small, however nonetheless her existing body of work has received much praise. Admirers have described her music as hypnotic, elegant, deceptively simple, narcotic and sensuous.
