Spatial audio in Ambisonics Dome

Workshop Module-I: Monday 25 Sept from 10am to 5pm (1day/7hours)

Workshop Module-II: Tuesday 26 Sept from 10am to 5pm (1day/7hours)

(Please note the module-II is only available for participants who attends modul-I // the ticket for the workshop includes a free entrance to the installation during the exhibition) the workshop is part of the program of the exhibition #12

• learn and understand the nature of physical modelling of spatialization generically for sound and more specifically for Ambisonics.

• get into the hystorical path that defined the development and the peculiar success of this system in between different models of sound imaging.

• take the chance to create and experiment your own composition in multichannel of Ambisonics which could be an inspiring tool to realize concepts you are seeking in your artistic practice.

CONCEPT

''Ambisonics is a full-sphere surround sound technique: in addition to the horizontal plane, it covers sound sources above and below the listener. Unlike other multichannel surround formats, its transmission channels do not carry speaker signals''.

In the contemporary practice of working with sound, due to the technological avilability of hardware for multichannel and its related DYE techniques emerging in the artistic practice, it´s becoming an urgency to re-discuss systems of spatialization which historically stands for new forms of sonic experience as well as Ambisonics does.

PROGRAM: Modul-I

  • quick introduction of participants
  • Why Ambisonics? Introduction to the history of spatial audio
  • Physical modelling of Ambi-sound in 4ch, 8ch, 16ch
  • In depht of KLANG RAUM SKULPTUR: how we made it?
  • Listening session as multichannel experience in Ambisonics
  • Exchange/talk of personal sound experience between participants

PROGRAM: Modul-II

  • quick introduction of participants
  • learn how to operate the algorithm for Ambisonics in DAW`s.
  • compose and test your own sound in the system
  • final presentation of the experiments made by participants

Participants of Modul-II are asked to bring thier Laptop and an audiointerface if available.
