SPEKTRUM's communities present an afternoon of workshops with MadeByUs, Smell Lab and Sonic Code Sessions sharing insights and skills of their research and practice. Come along and get to know more about what is going on in the different communities. There will be workshops on:
- 3D printing (MadeByUs)
- Scent distillation (Smell Lab)
- Networked sound (Sonic Code Sessions)
Attendance is free but places are limited: please sign up here if you want to join!
The workshops will be running at the same time, so it is only possible to attend one.

Want to learn the fundamentals of 3D printing? Curious about how you can make use of 3D printing in your artistic practice? Participants of this workshop get an overview of 3D printing and how it can be incorporated into artistic practice. An introduction to 3D printing will be mixed with practical skills such as how to operate the new 3D printers in the SPEKTRUM Maker Lab.

SMEllscapes: Scent distillation

The sense of smell is one of the most powerful and useful functions our body belongs. It warns us of dangers in our environment, it has a crucial role on how we experience places and spaces, and also how do we relate to others. Smell is powerful medium and tool with many outputs and possibilities for art, design and science.
During this workshop Klara will show us the possibilities of scent as a medium. How does smell work, why is it that it's so tight to our emotions and memories? We will as well review the uses of olfaction in the arts scene.
After an introduction to the medium participants will learn how to obtain aromatic compounds from organic material via steam distillation. While distilling we will learn about the existing types of distillations and how to build a DIY distiller at home.
Networked sound
Workshop led by: Abe Pazos
In this workshop we will create and play simple software synthesizers with SuperCollider, first on our own laptops, and then we will let our programs talk, listen and respond to each other using Open Sound Control to create spatial algorithmic compositions.
Please bring a wifi enabled laptop with a current version of SuperCollider pre-installed. We will use our own laptop speakers. No previous programming experience required
