Throughout time, artists have always been fascinated by light and it’s expressiveness, but it’s only in the last century that light itself has become a medium for art. Ephemeral, visceral, and abstract by nature, light possesses an incredible power to move us in ways that words and images cannot.
In this two day workshop, we’ll be exploring the tools and techniques available for sculpting immersive light environments. Each day will consist of teaching, examples, and hands on work, with a focus on building a solid foundation for creating one’s own light art works.

about the workshop holder
Doron Sadja is an American artist and electronic musician whose work explores modes of perception and the experience of sound, light, and space. “Difficult, powerful, intense and delicate – all at the same time” Sadja stages epic performance works that immerse the audience into a futuristic landscape of pure sound and light. At times bordering on painful, at other times like bathing in a sea of lush harmonies, Sadja melds pristine electronic tones with romantic synthesizers and dark noise to construct hyper-emotive sonic architecture.
Sadja has performed and exhibited throughout Europe and the US, including Atonal Festival and Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, PS1 MoMa Museum in NYC, Norberg Festival in Sweden, and the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics in Austria. Sadja has collaborated with Tony Conrad, Aki Onda, Mario Diaz de Leon, Audrey Chen, and Zeljko McMullen amongst others. Sadja currently lives in Berlin where he runs the popular Sound Portraits lecture/listening series.
