Sound art night featuring:

Ute Wassermann, voice artist, composer, improvisor is known for her extraordinary, many-voiced and extreme vocal sound-language, which she has brought into experimental/contemporary sound in diverse ways. She is engaged in the area between composition and improvisation, sound and performance art as well as in free improvisation. She studied visual arts (sound installation, performance art) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, and subsequently visual art and singing at the University of California, San Diego. Ute´s singing seems to be disconnected from the voice creating a soundworld of birds, machines, electronics. She masks her voice using bird whistles, palate whistles, speaker objects, resonators. Numerous performances as a vocal soloist in festivals, galleries and clubs throughout Europe, Australia and Asia. Premieres of numerous works by composers especially written for her voice. Performances with different bands and adhoc with sound-artists like Birgit Ulher, Phil Minton, Thomas Lehn, Martin Blume, John Russel, Raed Yassin, Michael Vorfeld, Les Femmes Savantes. Recent commissions for compositions by Ryogoku Art Festival, University of Amsterdam and Poetica Sonora, Mexico City. She has received several grants like a residency at the Civitella Ranieri Foundation in 2015.
Turntablist Joke Lanz creates autonomous sound-cells that melt into a language free of any function. He combines ritual reductionism with anarchistic playfulness, atmospheric soundscapes with cut-up noise and physicalness with unpredictability: Massive scratches, walls of sound, grooves, loops, noises and voice modulations!
Best known for his international acclaimed Noise project 'Sudden Infant', Joke Lanz is presenting his work since 25 years all over the world. Born in Switzerland and currently operating out of Berlin, Joke Lanz is one of the most prolific and profound artists working in the border zones where performance and body art meet Improvisation and Noise.
He collaborated with: Shelley Hirsch, Ken Vandermark, Lasse Marhaug, Jorge Sanchez-Chiong, Olaf Rupp, Strotter Inst, Christian Weber, Charlotte Hug, Peter Kowald, Christian Marclay, DJ Olive, Martin Baumgartner, dieb13, eRikM, Martin Tétreault, Christian Wolfarth, Jonas Kocher, Mat Pogo, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, just to name a few.
Born in Bolzano (IT), JD ZAZIE is a turntablist and sound artist based in Berlin. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background JD Zazie has explored over the years different approaches of real-time manipulation on fixed recorded sound. In her work she redefines electroacoustic activities. As a solo performer, in small groups or large ensembles she moves in an area which is constantly stretching the borders of what is supposed to be DJ mixing, free improvisation and composed sound. Intended as instruments CDjs, turntables and mixer are her tools to mix the specific sound-sources she plays (mostly electronic, electroacoustic, musique concrète, field recordings and improvised sound). The typology of the sound-sources varies from already existing audio publications and sound effects, to self recorded audio files – as live-set and field-recordings -, to selected pre-mixed material. Juxtaposition, decontextualization, fragmentation, repetition, sonic texture, scratch and error are elements of the grammar adopted to relate, organize and rearrange the sound material following her “Äpfelzerstörer’s method”.
She is a member of the Italian label Burp Enterprise and co-runs Staalplaat Radio.
She has participated in numerous exhibitions and events including Reheat festival (AT), High Zero festival (US), Music Unlimited #27 (AT), Tuned City Bruxelles (BE), Open Provocation festival (UK), Festival Rue du Nord (CH), Audiograft 2012 (UK), Echtzeitmusiktage 2010 (DE), STEIM’s Turntable Night #7 (NL), Audioscoop / IntroInSitu (NL), Avantgarde Festival Schiphorst (DE).
Roy Carroll is a sound artist and composer, born in Dublin, living in Berlin, making recordings, compositions and performances. His work encompasses improvisation, composition, sound/choreographic collaboration and practical/experimental research, with porous borders in between. Roy's overarching interest is in electro-acoustic sound processes, and their physical/acoustic manifestation. Recent work has focused on provoking unstable interactions between diverse electro-acoustic media, - such as transducers, actuators, amplifiers, signal processing, feedback, psycho-acoustic phenomena.
Roy has collaborated extensively with Maya M Carroll in the creation of some 22 projects as The Instrument, extending his electro-acoustic / kinetic aesthetic to encompass movement and physicality and the possibilities of the stage and theatre.
