Workshop Plasma-Sonification

Plasma is the 4th classical state of Matter and manifests light according to the electromagnetic/electric field generating it. What if artists use fundamental conditions of this source to be played as an audiovisual instrument? The workshop will introduce the history of Visual Music behind screen based approaches and will offer a practical experience on using light and sound for a spatial and compositional works.

Participants will go trough different kind of sources of light, such as Spectral tubes, Argon discharge chamber, Fluorescent tubes by using a digitally controlled high-voltage system. This design has been developed specifically to react on noble-gas based lamps to music, introduced by Ahmad A. Taleb.

The workshop is open to everybody and does not require specific skills although musicians with a midi protocol software can directly play the system themselves. We encourage to bring your own computer to try the instrument out.
