XEN - Assemblage #5

  • Doors: 19:30
  • Start time: 20:00
  • Entrance: free

In the last XenoEntities Network’s (XEN) assemblage we discussed the release of Chelsea Manning and had an incredibly informative presentation by Merle from Artgames on porn and post-porn in Virtual Reality. We were supposed to have a showcase with artists working with VR for this Assemblage on the 10th of July but due to unforseen issues we are forced to postpone this showcase.

As an alternative we decided to focus this Assemblage #5 to discuss issues related with our following programs with Amber Bemack and Nadia Granados, who will present two films on the 16th and a performance on the 21st. On this note, this Assemblage takes on the current debate of same-sex marriage which just got approved in Germany to debate matters related to the geopolitics of matrimony and how these intersect with queer politics.

We invited Ricke Merighi, film programmer working with Queer Lisboa, to join Pedro Marum, from XEN, to talk about two film programs they’ve co-curated: ‘Queer Topographies’ and ‘Sex Economics’, screened in Queer Lisboa and in the International Conference of Critical Geography, in Ramallah, Palestine. They will screen one film picked from their programs which will serve as a trigger a conversation on how migration laws and marriage become instrumental in relationships and intimacy while trying to meet bureaucratic demands.

We would like to highlight that XEN’s assemblages are community meeting for an informal sharing of ideas, free of charge and where everyone is allowed to freely intervene and participate. Please bring along texts or links to articles etc that you would like to share and discuss and feel free to bring friends, thinkers, lovers who you think might share our interest in dreaming of alternate futures, discussing gender and feminist politics and how these intersect with technology.
