XEN - Assemblage #6
- Doors: 19:30
- Start time: 20:00
- Entrance: free
After a short hiatus of activity, XenoEntities Network (XEN) will present two last programs of the year dedicated to the life and work of Donna Haraway.
For Assemblage #6, we revisit Haraway’s “A Cyborg Manifesto.” (For those who have never read it, we recommend reading before joining this assemblage.) After 34 years since its first edition, we hope to overview and analyse the manifesto’s influence on contemporary feminist and technological debates. Still still seen as a cornerstone for intersectional discussion of feminism, technology, socialism, and materialism, “A Cyborg Manifesto” works towards a dismantling of patriarchal and naturalist discourses over the body and language.
Sparking early posthumanism, Haraway’s articulation of the cyborg rejects early feminist essentialism for more chimeric notions of animal and machine, eschewing phallogocentrism to make space for new affinities. We will examine the world-building potential of these affinities, from tentacles and invertebrate to new criticisms of Haraway’s work.
This assemblage will continue the debate initiated with the screening of Donna Haraway’s biopic Donna Haraway: Story Telling for Earthly Survival, by Fabrizio Terranova, on the 10th of December, at SPEKTRUM. We would like to highlight that XEN’s assemblages are community meetings for an informal sharing of ideas, free of charge, where everyone is allowed to intervene freely and participate. Please bring texts or links to articles and videos that you would like to share and discuss.
