Yurie Ido’s performances combine actions, sound and video. She uses images of projected video as a graphic backdrop for her performances. During the performance, she times her action rhythmically in order to match certain sounds and images in the video projection behind her. Her work does not follow a conventional narrative and is without spoken words.

Ichi Go is a contemporary performer from Japan. She sleeps on the stage. She dreams of flying in the sky. A man is looking vacantly at her. He is an elephant in her dream.

In public for example, on the street in a crowd, or by the sea alone, I held up a placard on which a Japanese sentence is written. Most people in Denmark can neither read nor understand Japanese. For them, there is no meaning. My action was documented and presented as a video piece with subtitles. Here you can see a playful scene. New meaning is added to an everyday situation.
